Are the Cowboys pondering a big trade to add even more defensive help? One former NFL scout and current Dallas radio host is following the breadcrumbs.

The Fan’s Bryan Broaddus of “G-Bag Nation” had a bold thought for a possible Cowboys trade on Friday — and, hey, where there’s smoke, there might be fire. As Broaddus said, Stephen Jones himself has been dropping hints that Dallas could be looking around for a big buy-in type move prior to the start of the season.

“We’ve got several things that we’re considering right now,” the Cowboys co-owner and executive VP said in his own visit with The Fan on Friday. “Some of it trades, some of it signing guys, because a lot of these older guys who still have treads on the tires can come in and help you.”

Broaddus suggests Jones and Co. look to the East, where it appears the Miami Dolphins are in the beginning stages of a tank job. They parted ways with longtime quarterback Tua Tagovailoa over the offseason and are projected by Vegas to win 4.5 games in 2026.

Broaddus thinks the Cowboys could get the Dolphins to part ways with 2025 All-Pro linebacker Jordyn Brooks in exchange for some draft capital.

“I think [the Cowboys] are going for a bigger fish,” Broadus suggested on Friday. “I’m kinda getting some whispers about Miami, that maybe Miami realizes they’re not gonna be very good. And through the blessing of [owner] Stephen Ross, maybe they’re going to absorb a bunch of cap, they’re in serious cap problems, and Ross has given them the blessing to take more of those hits if they can add draft capital …

“I would keep an eye on Brooks there. Stephen Jones is dropping some hints. I think they’re looking [for] bigger than Bobby Wagner.”

Brooks no doubt would be a big fish. The six-year veteran led the NFL in tackles last season with 183, adding 3.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss as well. He was selected first-team All-Pro for the first time in his career. He signed a three-year, $51.3 million extension with the Dolphins last season, which Miami won’t have much use for if they’re transitioning into a rebuild mode.

It all depends on how big of a splash the Cowboys are looking to make just before the 2026 season kicks off.
