LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head men’s tennis coach Aaron Paajanen announced the addition of Raul Quevedo Aranda to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Quevedo Aranda joins the Aggies after spending the past three seasons as head coach of the men’s and women’s teams at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. Taking over a men’s program that won three matches in its most recent season, Quevedo Aranda led the team to a 36-24 record over three seasons, including an 18-3 record this past season as the team won a G-MAC championship and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, also winning its first round match for the first time since 2014. He was named the ITA/Dunlop DII Midwest Region Coach of the Year after guiding the Timberwolves to a top-30 finish in the national rankings. Quevedo Aranda led the women’s team to a 45-16 record during his three seasons, appearing in the NCAA Tournament in his first season and going 21-6 in G-MAC play during his time at the helm.
Prior to Northwood, Quevedo Aranda served as tennis professional at the Country Club at Woodfield in Florida. He began his career as an assistant coach for men’s and women’s tennis at the University of Illinois Springfield for two years before being promoted to head coach for three years. At UIS, Quevedo Aranda led the men’s team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history in 2021. The women’s team made its first Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament appearance in program history in 2019. Both the men’s and women’s programs earned top-50 national rankings. In his time at UIS, the team had 13 student-athletes earn All-GLIAC and 11 earn GLVC Player of the Week honors. In total, the Prairie Stars posted a 46-31 combined record in his three years as head coach (24-15 men/22-16 women).
Quevedo Aranda was a standout performer at Young Harris College in Georgia, ending his career as the program’s all-time winningest player with 115 total victories (57 singles and 58 doubles). He graduated from Young Harris in 2017 with a degree in business and public policy and earned an MBA from Illinois-Springfield in 2020.
