Cameron Norrie def Dino Prizmic 3-6 6-1 6-4

Cameron Norrie is into the second round in Cincinnati after a three set win over Dino Prizmic. In the opening set both players brough tenacity and exquisite shot-making with Prizmic showing why he is one of the stars of the future. After overcoming a tough service game, Prizmic broke in the fourth game for a 3-1 lead as he capitalized on a poor service game from Norrie with the Croatian going 4-1 up with a comfortable hold of serve.

It was the backhand of Prizmic that did the most damage as Norrie was exposed from both the baseline and the net. There was a good response from Norrie who produced some aggressive shot-making to hold serve on a couple of more occasions. However, it was Prizmic who was consistently decisive in the crucial moments as he took the opening set with a forehand winner.

In the second set, Norrie produced some aggressive tennis as he continued to attack the net and take more risks from inside the baseline. There was a lack of consistency from Prizmic but Norrie was excellent in rushing the Croatian from the baseline. There were two quick breaks of serve from Norrie as he took a 5-1 lead. Some good defensive work saw Norrie wrap up a rapid second set, levelling the match at one set all.

In the deciding set both players played their best tennis in what was very hot and humid conditions. They traded blows in long rallies but it was Prizmic who produced world-class quality and variety as he earned four break points. However, the Croatian lacked the clinical edge as Norrie was persistent in his approach and the Brit shut the door on any potential break against his serve.

Those missed opportunities would prove costly for Prizmic as Norrie would break to love in the seventh game to deal the crucial blow. A big serve down the middle sealed the win for Norrie who once again showed why his desire to win is one of his biggest qualities and strengths.

Playing Styles and Prediction

Zverev has had a remarkable season with his new-found aggressive style of play paying off. The German won his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros and backed that up by reaching his first Wimbledon final. An early exit in Canada would have been a blow for Zverev who is aiming to rise to the occasion of being the top seed and build momentum towards the US Open.

Norrie will look to be aggressive on the backhand side and will aim for consistency on serve. Meanwhile, Zverev will look to take the ball early on the forehand side and punish Norrie’s second serves. This will be a tough test for Norrie who will push Zverev to his limits but ultimately fall short once again.

Prediction: Zverev in three sets.
