Three singles players and two doubles teams went unbeaten for the Verona girls tennis team in three season-opening matches on Monday, Aug. 17, in La Crosse.
Norah Nick at No. 4 singles and one match at No. 2 singles went 3-0. Amanda Fahy at No. 2 singles and Lauren Sweeney at No. 3 singles each went 2-0.
The Wildcats’ No. 1 doubles team of senior Jillian Halsted and junior Addie Koehler and the No. 3 doubles team of Katherine Andres and Grace Danielson each went 3-0.
Verona knocked off Onalaska 5-2. The Wildcats rolled by La Crosse Logan 7-0 and La Crosse Central 7-0.
Verona 5, Onalaska 2
The Wildcats won three singles matches en route to the victory.
Fahy at No. 2 singles outlasted Onalaska’s Juliuana Dunn 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Sweeney at No. 3 singles defeated the Hilltoppers’ Lynley Dunn 6-4, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Nick defeated Onalaska’s Jaylee Luedke 6-1, 6-4.
Halsted and Koehler at No. 1 doubles defeated the Hilltoppers’ Claire Fortun and Shashi Geachew 6-1, 6-4. At No. 3 doubles, Andres and Danielson knocked off Onalaska’s Isabella Peterson and Abby Limberg 6-3, 7-6 (3).
Verona 7, La Crosse Logan 0
Verona swept every flight against Logan.
Yustinia Haberkorn-Rudnitzky at No. 1 singles cruised by Logan’s Maria Weber 6-1, 6-1. Nick at No. 2 singles defeated Logan’s Lwg Dej Xiong 6-0, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Audrey Bluemner rolled by Gelina Xiong 6-0, 6-0. Verona’s Arabella Joelson at No. 4 singles defeated Logan’s Rylie Lachman 6-3, 6-2.
Halsted and Koehler at No. 1 doubles breezed by Logan’s Holly Aspenson and Emma Reuter 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Bluemner and Eckmayer rolled by Josie Ryan and Julie Xiong 6-0, 6-0. Andres and Danielson cruised by Marissa Menezes and Bridget Ryan 6-0, 6-0.
Verona 7, La Crosse Central 0
Bluemner and Eckmayer at No. 2 doubles won a three-set match to help the Wildcats win every flight.
Bluemner and Eckmayer pulled out a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 11-9 win. Halsted and Koehler at No. 1 doubles defeated Central’s Cate Prescott and Taylor Herold 6-4, 6-0. Andres and Danielson at No. 3 doubles defeated Central’s Silvi Reich and Elsa Kayson 7-5, 6-3.
At No. 1 singles, Haberkorn-Rudnitzky defeated Central’s Sophie Ackerman 6-2, 6-4. Fahy at No. 2 singles rolled by Central’s Alexis Engstrom 6-0, 6-2. Sweeney at No. 3 singles breezed by Kessa Markham 6-0, 6-0. Nick rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Georgia Nygren.
