He’s transferring from Villanova, he’ll play for Oklahoma and his name is Duke.
The Sooners landed a big one in the transfer portal on Wednesday by adding former Villanova big man Duke Brennan, according to a report by Sooner Scoop’s Bob Przybylo. The 6-10 super-senior was recently awarded another year of collegiate eligibility and will spend his fifth season in Norman.
Brennan fills a hole at center for Porter Moser’s Sooners, and in a big way. He was one of the most productive bigs in college basketball last season, starting all 32 games for Villanova and averaging a double-double with 12.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
Brennan was one of several players granted a temporary injunction against the NCAA that allowed him an extra year of eligibility. The NCAA began a new eligibility model in June that allows five seasons over a five-year period that begins upon full-time enrollment or the athlete’s 19th birthday, whichever comes first.
That was also the case for B.J. Edwards, another massive transfer addition for the Sooners who spent three seasons as a standout guard at SMU. He and Brennan are two of the biggest five-for-five additions of the college basketball offseason.
Brennan, a native of Chandler, Ariz., spent previous seasons at Grand Canyon and Arizona State before transferring to Villanova for his senior season. He was named second-team All-WAC and WAC All-Defense in his final season at Grand Canyon.
