Doug Collins and Sean Duffy want NASCAR to join INDYCAR in the Streets of Washington, D.C.
Roger Penske just pulled off the impossible. For over 20 years, he’s attempted to facilitate a street race in Washington, D.C.
On Sunday, his work paid off. INDYCAR raced in the Freedom 250. The 1.7-mile course wrapped through the streets of the nation’s capital.

Will the event return in 2027? That sounds unlikely mostly due to the cost of the event, but possible.
Sharing the costs of the event could help. And who else could join in to help share those costs? NASCAR, the largest form of motorsports in the United States.
White House Officials Doug Collins and Sean Duffy are both calling on NASCAR to join the event in the future…
White House Officials request NASCAR to join D.C. event
Doug Collins is the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs. He was asked about the event in the post-race broadcast and he wants the event to be bigger in the future.
“I think it should be every year, but I’ve got one to add to it. I’m an old Southern boy. I’m a NASCAR boy. It’s time to bring NASCAR to DC. I’ve already tweeted about it,” Collins said.
“NASCAR can handle anything. We need NASCAR in DC as well. Along with IndyCar, two American sports, put them right here,” Collins added.
Collins concluded, “Hey NASCAR, call Sean Duffy.
Sean Duffy worked closely with with Roger Penske to make this event come to life. And, he’s already reached out to NASCAR publicly…
“INDYCAR is taking over D.C. Your move, NASCAR,” U.S. Department of Transportation secretary, Sean Duffy stated via X.
Mayor Muriel Bowser
“A beautiful day in Washington, DC for the Freedom 250 IndyCar Grand Prix, and with an iconic backdrop,” Bowser stated.
“We’re proud to host visitors from all around the world to experience all the Sports Capital has to offer.”
Earlier this year, NASCAR raced at Naval Base Coronado in California. That event was similar in a lot of ways. A lot of events have been released for the 2027 NASCAR schedule, so far there are no street courses.

Senator Adam Schiff
“While you struggle with the cost of gas, Trump offers you the spectacle of an IndyCar race hoping you will not notice,” Schiff stated on X.
“More taxpayer money spent on his self-aggrandizing distractions.”
“And you get higher taxes and higher costs.”
INDYCAR driver Graham Rahal responds to Adam Schiff
“No, no, Adam. He wanted you to notice and bask in the pride of being AMERICAN, watch great racing and patriotism on display,” Rahal opened.
“Not only that, this was privately funded, not government although it drove thousands of folks to the DC area that have never been (that’s economic impact for you). It allowed folks who have never been to see museums, monuments, the White House and AMERICAN history for the first time as well.”
Rahal concluded, “And guess what, hundreds of thousands of AMERICANS, blue & red, as well as fans from all over the world loved the #Freedom250!”
