ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (WBTV) – A race track in North Carolina has officially lost its weekend on the NASCAR schedule in 2027.
NASCAR released its 2027 schedules on Wednesday, Aug. 26, for each of the Cup, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and Craftsman Truck series.
One notable venue that was not on the slate for any of the three series is Rockingham Speedway, which made its NASCAR return in 2025, when the O’Reilly and Truck series raced on Easter weekend. The two series came back again in 2026.
Tickets to the O’Reilly race sold out in both 2025 and 2026.
Despite the sell-outs and quality racing at Rockingham, The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi reported in July that ownership instability made it “untenable” for NASCAR to go back to the 0.94-mile speedway.
As a result, Rockingham does not have a race date for either the O’Reilly or Truck series in 2027.
The historic track has still yet to host a Cup Series race since 2004, when Matt Kenseth took the checkered flag.
Elsewhere in North Carolina, Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem — which hosted the preseason “Clash” race in 2025 and 2026 — will not host the exhibition event in 2027. Meanwhile, the All-Star Race is moving back to North Wilkesboro in 2027.
North Wilkesboro will not host a regular-season Cup Series race like it did in 2026, although the track will have a points-paying event for the O’Reilly and Truck series during the same May weekend.
Charlotte Motor Speedway will continue to host two races in 2027, headlined by NASCAR’s longest race, the Coca-Cola 600.
