The Chicago Blackhawks today announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Kevin Korchinski on a two-year contract ($1,325,000 salary cap hit). The contract will begin in the 2026-27 season and will run through the 2027-28 season.
Korchinski, 22, appeared in 13 games with the Blackhawks during the 2025-26 campaign, logging two assists. He’s also posted 26 points (2G, 24A) in 53 games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. He ranked second among team blueliners with 24 assists and 26 points, while his two goals share fourth. He also ranked fifth among all IceHogs skaters with 24 assists and shared eighth with 26 points. Additionally, Korchinski represented the IceHogs at the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic, marking his second-straight AHL All-Star Game appearance.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound blueliner has totaled 19 points (6G, 13A) in 105 career NHL games with the Blackhawks from 2023-26. He’s also competed in 109 career regular-season AHL games with the IceHogs from 2024-26, totaling 53 points (5G, 48A). In addition, Korchinski tallied four points (2G, 2A) in seven Calder Cup Playoff games with the IceHogs during the 2025 postseason. The defenseman represented Rockford at the 2025 AHL All-Star Challenge and was named the most valuable player.
Internationally, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native captured a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, logging four points (1G, 3A) in seven games. He ranked third among all Canada defenseman with four points, while he shared third with three assists.
Korchinski was originally selected by the Blackhawks in the first round (7th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
