LUBBOCK, Texas — A suffocating defensive performances and goals in each half led Lubbock Christian University to a 2-0 victory over Adams State on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex, getting the Chaps into the win column for the first time in the 2026 season.
The home team recorded eight shots on goal and maintained a shutout, with Adams State managing only one shot on target throughout the match.
The first period began with Lubbock Christian establishing an early advantage. Joao Catafesta scored on a rocket from 20 yards out in the eighth minute, assisted by Augusto Militao, to put the home team ahead. The Chaparrals maintained offensive pressure with multiple shots on goal, including attempts by Junior Lopez and Oli Robinson, though none extended the lead.
Defensively, the Chaps’ Milo Paci made his only save in the 39th minute to preserve the lead. Paci was relatively un-bothered in goal for most of the match, as LCU’s back line allowed only one the one shot in the entire match. It is the fewest shots allowed in a game in the NCAA era, which dates back to 2015.
The second period saw the Chaparrals maintain momentum from the first half, quickly setting the tone with aggressive offensive play. Early in the period, Lucas Carli played a ball to Militao, who out-did Catafesta with a goal from even further out, beating the ASU keeper on the left side.
Throughout the period, the Chaparrals’ offense continued to press forward, creating multiple scoring opportunities with shots from Alex Lachevre, Jack Brassey, and Catafesta, although they were unable to convert further. The defense held firm, limiting ASU’s chances and maintaining the clean sheet. The match concluded with the Chaparrals securing a 2-0 victory.
GAME NOTES:
– Lubbock Christian remains unbeaten in the all-time series against Adams State, which began in 2015. They are now 9-0-0 against the Grizzlies
– The Chaps notched their first shutout of the season. Last year they tallied seven shutouts
– Senior Brayden Johnson made his first-ever official collegiate appearance on his Senior Day, playing 11 minutes in goal in the win
– With Carli assisting Militao’s goal, the two are now tied for the team lead with three points apiece. Both have scored one goal and assisted another
– With their first win at the friendly confines this year, CU’s men have an all-time record of 62-42-21 in home games
