Fields was booked into the Tarrant County jail Sunday and is being charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. Fields turned himself in to the jail Sunday morning, his agent Philip “Red” Miller of PM3 Sports confirmed to The Dallas Morning News.
In a statement shared on social media, Miller said he and Fields weren’t looking to try the case “through social media or the court of public opinion.” The agent is ready to let the legal process play out.
“I stand with Jacob, and I will not waver,” Miller’s statement read. “Jacob has legal counsel, and we will allow the legal process to run its course. There will be a time to speak. There will be a time for the facts. And there will be a time for the truth. Today, we let the process work.”
Fields, a Louisiana Tech transfer, was dismissed from the TCU football program earlier this month after an altercation with a teammate in the locker room at the John Justin Athletic Center. An aggravated assault by an unnamed student was reported to TCU Police by a football staff member, according to a police report obtained by The News.
Miller previously confirmed to The News that Fields was involved in the incident and that it led to his dismissal. The assault occurred at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 13 and was reported at 2:29 p.m. Aug. 14.
The heavily redacted police report says, “On today’s date, Officer [Kevin] Fitchett was dispatched to the John Justin Center to meet with RP (reporting party). The RP wanted to relay information regarding an altercation that occurred in the men’s locker room on yesterday’s date. … RP, who’s title is General Manager for TCU football, stated [redacted].”
The report goes on to say TCU PD advised the reporting party to have the victim make contact with them for “a more comprehensive investigation and possible filing to any charges if V1 chose to do so.”
The names of the victim, suspect and reporting party were redacted. The victim was a Black male, and the suspect was identified as a male student. Ryan Dorchester is listed as the program’s general manager on TCU’s website. TCU wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma later identified himself as the victim in a video posted on social media by a user who said he was Ezukanma’s father.
Fields transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason. A former Melissa High School standout, Fields was a three-star recruit in the high school class of 2023.
