Junior from Tomball, Texas shot 209 (-1) to finish T-23rd at Visit Knoxville Collegiate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Marek Fleming paced South Carolina in its season opener this week at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The Tomball, Texas native shot 209 (-1) to finish T-23rd with scores of 66-72-71.

The Gamecocks finished 12th as a team at 2-over for the tournament with rounds of 280 (E), 278 (-2) and 284 (+4).

Sophomore Talan Harrison finished T-30th at even par with scores of 72-68-70. Freshman Tjelle Rieger made his Gamecock debut this week shooting 212 (+2) with scores of 70-72-70.

Senior Brock Blais shot 214 (+4) and freshman Tom De Herrypon, who was also making his Gamecock debut this week at Fox Den Country Club, shot 215 (+5).

Host Tennessee came back from six spots down the leaderboard to win the tournament today thanks to a field-best final round team score of 266 (-14). Chattanooga’s Evan Rogers took home medalist honors by one shot over the Vols’ Rudy Sautron, posting red numbers each day for a final 54-hole total of 200 (-10).

The Gamecocks will have two weeks off before heading north to the mountains to compete in the J.T. Poston Invitational at Waynesville Inn & Golf Club in Waynesville, N.C. It’ll be Carolina’s third all-time appearance in the event and first since taking home the team title in the fall of the 2021-22 season. The Gamecocks shot the lowest 54-hole score in program history in their tournament debut in 2019 with a 46-under, 806 total (277-264-265).
