ATLANTA (ANF/Gray News) – The family of a 14-year-old Georgia girl who was beaten with a golf club during a fight is calling for justice as two teenage sisters and their mother face charges.
Kiera Harps, 14, needed staples in her head after she was beaten with a golf club during a fight Monday afternoon near her bus stop in Newnan. She was hospitalized but has since been released.
Newnan Police say 36-year-old Curtisia Anya Heath and her two daughters, ages 15 and 16, were arrested after the incident. All three are facing aggravated assault charges.
Kiera’s mother, Syrite Harps, says she wants justice for her daughter.
“For me, just seeing them get punished for what they did, (and) I want justice,” Harps said. “I feel like ya’ll tried to kill my daughter. That’s what went through my mind. She was laid on the ground. She was passed out, couldn’t get no response from her. She wasn’t moving. I thought she was dead.”
Fight started with online bullying, victim’s family says
Kiera’s older sister, Jasmine Osirio, said the fight started with Kiera being bullied online by the two teenage sisters, who also ride her bus. Osirio said she went to the bus stop Monday to talk it out.
“So, I’m trying to talk to the mother, but she just wouldn’t talk to me back. So, after that, it just broke loose,” she said.
Osirio shared cell phone video of the fight, which appears to show the 16-year-old suspect hitting Kiera with a golf club that police say the teens’ mother gave them.
“She was bleeding. Then, she hyperventilated and passed out,” Osirio said of her sister.
On the video, everyone else appears to continue punching each other and pulling each other down.
“It continued, and they also hit me with the golf club as well,” Osirio said.
After their arrests, both teens were taken to a regional youth detention facility while Heath was taken to the Coweta County Jail.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Kiera’s family.
