Kate Martin will continue her journey around the WNBA with the Chicago Sky.
Martin, a 2018 Edwardsville graduate, signed a development contract with Chicago on Sept. 2, according to the organization. The Sky are Martin’s third team this season and fourth overall in her career.
Martin was released by the Los Angeles Sparks on Aug. 29 after signing a development contract with the team May 10 and later receiving a standard contract in July. She appeared in 17 games for Los Angeles, averaging 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.1 minutes per game.
The 6-foot shooting guard was selected 18th overall by the Las Vegas Aces in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She played one season in Las Vegas, averaging 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds, before being selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the expansion draft.
Martin played in 42 games for Golden State in 2025, averaging 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds. She ranked third on the Valkyries with 57 3-pointers made during the team’s inaugural season. Martin was waived before the start of the 2026 regular season.
She owns career averages of 4.2 points and 2.0 rebounds.
Before reaching the WNBA, Martin played five seasons at Iowa, where she averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists while shooting 46.4% from the field and 35.5% from 3-point range. She appeared in 163 games for the Hawkeyes and helped Iowa reach consecutive national championship games.
Martin will wear No. 20 for the Sky.
The WNBA is currently on a FIBA break and will return to action Sept. 17.
Chicago is 15-25 and has been eliminated from postseason contention. The Sky will miss the playoffs for a third consecutive season.
