PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — When Ella Coulter played her senior year of high school golf at Notre Dame, she figured it would be her last year of competitive golf.
Afterall, she was going off to USC to study.
Then she got an email from the women’s golf team looking for a manager.
“I reached out and took a chance. I got in touch with the coaches and I became the new student manager,” said Coulter. “I mainly do data entry and go to practice once a week. Twice if they need me.”
So, golf is still in her life but she’s still a little too busy to play. Coulter is studying the business of the cinematic arts, a joint degree with USC’s business and film schools.
She’s studied abroad, attended to the Rome Film Festival, toured movie studios in London and sat in on symposiums with studio heads and film makers like George Lucas. She’s even directed a short film.
“I’m basically studying the business of the entertainment industry,” said Coulter. “Right now, I’m interested in film and TV development. and production, as well as entertainment law.”
She’s around some of the top collegiate golfers in the country as a manager for the top women’s golf team in the Big Ten. Golf has clearly opened doors for her in college.
And she knows it’ll be something she uses in her business career too.
“Being around those (high) level of players makes me want to compete again. This summer, I picked it up more,” Coulter admitted. “Golf will definitely play an important part in my journey in the entertainment industry. I’m definitely looking forward to that.”
