GENEVA — The William Smith Herons tennis team will have an interim head coach in the 2026 season.
The Herons’ tennis program will begin its newest season next weekend at the HWS Tennis Center in the Mary Hosking Invitational, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept 13.
Hobart and William Smith Athletics announced Wednesday that William Smith tennis head coach Emme Levenson has resigned to accept a coaching position in her native Virginia, to be closer to family.
Hobart tennis head coach Tim Riskie will lead both the Statesmen and Herons on an interim basis this fall while HWS conducts a national search for the next head coach of William Smith tennis.
“We are grateful to Emme for the energy and care she invested in William Smith tennis,” Deputy Director of Athletics Liz Dennison said about Levenson. “In her time with the program, she made a meaningful impact on our student-athletes, both on and off the court, and helped create a culture built around competitiveness, connection and confidence. We appreciate all she has done at HWS, and we wish her best in this next chapter.”
In one season as the head coach, Levenson guided William Smith to an 8-11 overall record, including a 3-5 mark in Liberty League Conference play, leading the Herons to their first Liberty League Tournament appearance since the 2019 season.
Levenson mentored six ITA Scholar-Athletes, three CSC Academic All-District selections and an All-Liberty League honorable mention singles pick in 2025-26.
Riskie has been a member of the HWS coaching staff since 2011 and he previously led the Statesmen and Herons’ tennis teams from 2021-24. Across 15 seasons, he has amassed 199 combined career tennis wins, overseeing the development of four All-Americans and 76 All-Liberty League selections.
