As a young American star, fans are closely following Ben Shelton’s 2026 US Open run. And he gave them something to cheer about late on Friday night.
The 23-year-old beat Denis Shapovalov in four sets to advance to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2023, having gone out in the third round during the last two tournaments.
Shelton is set to face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the next round, but before that happens, fans online are basking in his latest victory.

Shelton beat Shapovalov in four sets, winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. After a hard-fought start to the match, he closed it out in style late into the night.
The 23-year-old’s performance has not gone unnoticed by fans, who are excited to see him performing well once again and now discussing how far he can go.
“What a beautiful feeling it is when you beat a rival who you can’t stand,” one fan commented. “Now I can go to sleep in peace,” wrote another.

All eyes will be on Shelton’s next game and a win to move on to the quarterfinals of the US Open will really get his fans hyped if the 23-year-old can pull it off.
