FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas men’s golf enters the 2026-27 season looking to build on a strong year and take another step toward competing for a national championship.

The Razorbacks return several players from last season’s team, including Erich Fortlage, Gerardo Gómez, Thomas Curry and Niilo Mäki-Petäjä. That returning experience gives Arkansas a foundation as it begins another season of competition.

Last season, Arkansas reached the NCAA Championships for the 27th time in program history. The Razorbacks finished 19th in the championship, while Gómez tied for 22nd individually and advanced to a playoff for a spot in the final round.

The result left Arkansas with plenty to build on, but also room to improve. The Razorbacks will aim to turn their experience from last season into more consistent performances throughout the year and a stronger finish when the postseason arrives.

Fortlage and Gómez will be among the players to watch as Arkansas begins its season. Both return after earning All-America honors, while Curry and Mäki-Petäjä provide additional experience to a lineup set to compete against some of the best teams in the country.

For Arkansas, the challenge will be finding consistency across its lineup. Golf tournaments are decided by the combined scores of the team’s golfers, making each round important as the Razorbacks work toward their postseason goals.

The season will also provide opportunities for younger players to establish themselves and contribute to the team. With a mix of returning experience and new talent, Arkansas will work to develop the depth it needs to compete throughout the season.

As the Razorbacks begin tournament play, the focus will be on more than individual scores. Each event will provide a chance to evaluate the team’s progress, identify areas for improvement and build toward the postseason.

The goal will remain the same throughout the season: put Arkansas in position to compete for a national championship.

For now, the Razorbacks will begin the process of getting there, one tournament at a time.
