HONOLULU – The Hawai’i women’s soccer team battled to a hard-earned 0-0 draw against Washington State at the UH Lower Campus Field Sunday to conclude the OUTRIGGER No Ka Oi.
With the scoreless tie, the Rainbow Wahine (3-3-1) extended their impressive shutout streak to four consecutive matches and have now kept opponents off the board for nine straight halves.
Against a physical Cougars (2-3-2) squad, the Bows’ defense once again stood tall. Junior goalkeeper Kennedy Justin played all 90 minutes to secure her third solo shutout of the season and the 10th of her career. The Hawai’i defensive line, featuring a complete 90-minute shift from senior midfielder Izzy Ayala alongside strong play from Pana’ewa Cayetano (71 minutes), Karissa Kira (74 minutes) and Laule’a Ah Mook Sang (81 minutes), limited Washington State to just seven total shots and a single shot on target.
While the defense held firm, Hawai’i’s offense was relentless in the attacking third, outshooting the Cougars 13-7 overall. The Bows also controlled 53 percent of the possession and earned a 5-2 edge in corner kicks but could not find the elusive breakthrough past WSU keeper Ashlyn Dvorak, who finished with three saves.
The Rainbow Wahine had multiple stellar looks at goal throughout the match. In the 14th minute, senior forward Anuhea Aluli saw her dangerous shot saved on the goal line by a Cougars defender. Ten minutes later, freshman Nalani Damacion forced a direct save from Dvorak, followed by another late first-half opportunity by senior Tatum Porter in the 41st minute that was turned away.
The intensity carried into the second half as both teams searched for a winner. Sophomore forward Montana Longcrier tested Dvorak in the 62nd minute with a shot on goal, while late efforts on corner kicks in the final minutes could not be cashed in.
Since conceding a goal at the 42:51 mark of their first half against Western Michigan on Aug. 20, the Rainbow Wahine have gone 407 consecutive minutes without allowing a single goal. During this remarkable stretch, they have logged four straight shutouts (Idaho, Hawai’i Pacific, New Mexico State, and Washington State), marking the longest such shutout streak since a five-match clean sheet streak in 2024.
With their seven-match homestand complete, the Rainbow Wahine will now enjoy a break before embarking on their inaugural campaign in the Mountain West. Hawai’i kicks off conference play on the road on Thursday, Sept. 24, as they travel to Colorado to take on Colorado College.
