LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A street near Las Vegas Motor Speedway could be renamed in honor of the late NASCAR driver and valley native Kyle Busch.
The agenda for next week’s Clark County Planning Commission meeting includes two items regarding the renaming of an L-shaped road within the speedway complex.
The road connecting Las Vegas Boulevard and Checkered Flag Lane is currently called Eren Drive. Under the proposal, one portion would be renamed “Busch Brothers Drive,” while the other would be “Rowdy Road.”
“Busch Brothers Drive” would recognize Kyle and Kurt Busch, while “Rowdy Road” would honor Kyle Busch’s nickname.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Kyle Busch won two NASCAR Cup Series championships and a NASCAR Nationwide Series. He ranked first in overall wins between the top three NASCAR divisions and is recognized as one of the most accomplished drivers in motorsports.
He died this past May in Charlotte, North Carolina, after suffering a sudden and severe illness. His family said the cause of death was sepsis and severe pneumonia.
According to the agenda item, county planning staff recommends approving “Busch Brothers Drive,” but wrote that there is already a street named Rowdy, which could pose an issue with the Combined Fire Communications Center.
If the changes are approved, the Speedway would be responsible for installing new street signs.
