DELAND, Fla. – Women’s soccer embarks on its first road contest in two weeks to match up against Stetson on Thursday, September 10 at 7 p.m.

The Panthers head into their match against the Hatters coming off a 1-0 loss to cross-town rival, Miami. FIU senior goalkeeper Valery Restrepo saved a career-high nine shots in the contest on 23 shots seen.

Game Preview

This will be the 29th meeting all-time between the two programs, with FIU leading with 18 wins dating back to 1993. Thursday’s contest will be the seventh meeting in seven years, with the series going 3-3 in the six matches played in that timespan. 

The Panthers’ contest against Howard proved to be an offensive onslaught, with FIU now owning six goal scorers on the season, led by freshman Yuzu Tanida and senior Maya Maxwell with two goals-a-piece. Maxwell also leads the team in points with six so far, all coming against the Bison. Her performance earned Maxwell her first CUSA Offensive Player of the Week honor. 

FIU has also seen goals from senior Mariana Barreto, senior Leyla Molina, sophomore Maria Lucia Dogliani and freshman Madeline Oliver, all of which own one goal on the season.

Maxwell, along with Mariana Barreto, now leads the team in assists, with Adria Kitzinger also dishing out one assist on the young season on Yuzu Tanida’s first goal of the year. 

Senior goalkeeper Valery Restrepo comes into the contest with 30 saves on the season, setting a new career-high in saves against Miami with nine. Restrepo’s GAA has progressively gone down, now sitting at 1.71.

Scouting the Hatters

Stetson comes into the match still winless on the season with an 0-5 record, so far scoring zero goals on the season. The Hatters have gotten off 27 shots with 10 shots on goal, unable to find the back of the net.

Stetson has seen three goalkeepers take minutes so far this season, led by senior Clare Boesel who has played in all five matchups with 416 minutes played. The New York native has allowed 13 goals so far and currently has a 2.81 GAA with 17 saves.

Match Notes

The Panthers lead in the all-time series, 18-6-4, with their last win being in 2025 when FIU beat the Hatters on a penalty kick in the 85th minute, marking a 3-2 win for the Panthers.

Stetson’s last victory against FIU came in the 2024 season the last time the Panthers traveled to DeLand, dropping the contest, 1-0.

The Panthers’ back-to-back matches against then-ranked No. 4 Florida State and No. 2 Duke was the first time in program history FIU played top-5 teams in consecutive matches.
