GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — The No. 12 Texas Men’s Golf team carded a 2-under 282 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for second place at the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club. Junior Daniel Bennett fired a 3-under 68 on Wednesday to earn a second-place finish in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 9-under 204 (70-66-68).
In Wednesday’s final round, Texas counted scores from Bennett (3-under 68), fifth-year Matt Comegys (even-par 71), junior Eduardo Derbez Torres (even-par 71) and sophomore Brooks Simmons (1-over 72).
Georgia Tech claimed the team title with a three-round score of 18-under 834 (272-284-278). Texas (285-272-282) and Notre Dame (280-277-282) tied for second at 13-under 839.
Max Emberson of Georgia Tech won the individual title with a 54-hole total of 11-under 202 (63-72-67). Bennett earned his fifth career runner-up finish, placing just two strokes behind Emberson at 9-under 204 (70-66-68). Kansas’ William Baker took third at 8-under 205 (68-70-67).
The Longhorns will return to action when they travel to compete at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup on Sept. 14-16 (Monday-Wednesday) at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas.
The Lineup

This marked Bennett’s fifth career runner-up finish in a collegiate tournament. He tallied five birdies (holes 4, 10, 12, 13 and 18) against two bogeys during his final round.
Fifth-year Matt Comegys carded an even-par 71 in his final round to tie for 18th with a three-round score of 1-under 212 (73-68-71). Comegys posted five birdies (holes 6, 8, 9, 16 and 17) on Wednesday.
Sophomore Brooks Simmons recorded a 1-over 72 on Wednesday to tie for 25th with a 54-hole total of 1-over 214 (74-68-72) in his collegiate debut. Simmons tallied a pair of birdies (holes 9 and 16) during his final round.
Junior Eduardo Derbez Torres registered an even-par 71 in his final round to tie for 37th with a three-round score of 5-over 218 (68-79-71). Derbez Torres carded five birdies (holes 4, 6, 7, 11 and 12) on Wednesday.
Senior Jack Gilbert fired a 1-over 72 on Wednesday to tie for 37th with a 54-hole total of 5-over 218 (76-70-72). Gilbert posted one birdie (hole 7) during his final round.
