The Kansas men’s golf team finished eighth, while the women’s team placed fifth at the Folds of Honor Golf Collegiate at American Dunes in Grand Haven, Michigan, this week.
Senior Will Baker led the way for the men’s team, shooting -8, which was good enough for a third-place finish. On the women’s side, Anna Wallin shot even par, tying for 12th place.
The Kansas men’s team, led by head coach Jamie Bermel, finished the three-round tournament with an overall team score of -1. Georgia Tech won the tournament with an overall score of -18.
Behind Baker, sophomore Arthur Carlier finished tied for 12th, shooting -1 in each round to put him at -3 for the event.
Led by Head Coach Lindsay Kuhle, the Kansas women’s team finished with an overall score of +5 to open its season. Florida State won the women’s tournament with an overall score of -3.
Senior Lyla Louderbaugh, from Buffalo, Missouri, was awarded the Dr. John Rooney Award before the tournament. The award goes to a men’s and women’s player who exemplifies a commitment to education and has the philanthropic qualities of Dr. John and Folds of Honor.
Louderbaugh turned in a strong performance, too, joining Wallin in 12th place at even par. Both golfers finished with 11 birdies across the three rounds.
Freshman Hannah Hall made it three Jayhawks in the top 20, finishing tied for 20th with an overall score of +3. Hall was making her collegiate debut and shot an impressive -4 (68) on the second day of the event.
Next up for the Kansas women’s team is the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colorado, from Sept. 21-23.
The men’s team will have a few weeks off before its next event, which is the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern on Sept. 28-29.
