Sophie Cunningham drops an obvious take on Caitlin Clark’s role in the WNBA’s recent success.
For years, the WNBA struggled to find a loyal fanbase despite being home to the best basketball talent in its own right.
However, this changed with the arrival of Caitlin Clark as the No. 1 overall pick during the 2024 WNBA Draft. The W saw unprecedented success with arenas selling out and fans lining up to catch a glimpse of the Indiana Fever superstar.
Despite that, in the past two years or so, there have been some in the WNBA who refuse to accept Clark’s impact on the league. Fortunately, Sophie Cunningham doesn’t fall into that category.

The Fever star just debuted her highly anticipated ‘No Hesitation’ podcast, and the show featured some genuine, unfiltered takes on the league.
Among them was Cunningham explaining why she or anyone else shouldn’t get in trouble for simply admitting Clark’s impact on the W’s popularity and success.
“I was like, ‘Oh, okay. Yeah, you can maybe give credit to the WNBA office.’ But at the end of the day, it was pretty much Caitlin and the players.
“I should not get in trouble for knowing the obvious. I think that you use that for your benefit,” Cunningham said.
She added, “Like it is so obvious, and that doesn’t mean there wasn’t greatness before her. It’s just like that’s when our game really started to go global.”
