WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Gouverneur and St. Lawrence Central met in their first regular-season league game, with the Wildcats shutting out the Larries 35-0.
Before the game, Wildcat and Larry fans honored America and first responders on the eve of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The State Police Troop B Color Guard led the ceremony.
On the opening kick, the Larries recovered an onside kick but did not capitalize on the possession.
Gouverneur scoring drives
On their first drive, Gouverneur quarterback Hayden Stowell ran 69 yards for a touchdown on a keeper, completing a five-play, 90-yard drive. The Wildcats led 7-0.
John Michael Leader finished Gouverneur’s second scoring drive with a two-yard run, completing a 57-yard drive. Gouverneur led 14-0.
On the first play of the second quarter, Cyler Baer took a handoff and ran 25 yards for a touchdown.
James Fishel made all of his extra point kicks. Gouverneur led 21-0.
After a Gouverneur fumble recovery, Braegan Lancto ran 21 yards for a touchdown.
Gouverneur defeated St. Lawrence Central 35-0.
LaFargeville tops Belleville-Henderson
In girls Frontier League soccer, LaFargeville beat host Belleville-Henderson 11-0.
In the first half, LaFargeville led 1-0 when Elyza Smith scored off a rebound, making it 2-0 Red Knights.
With the score 3-0, Smith scored with a left-footed shot, her fifth goal of the game, making it 4-0 LaFargeville.
Margie Barton then scored on a shot that deflected off the goalie’s hands and in, making it 5-0 Red Knights.
LaFargeville defeated Belleville-Henderson 11-0.
Watertown holds off Carthage
Under the lights at Watertown High School, the Cyclones hosted Carthage in a girls Frontier League matchup.
Early in the game, Carthage goalie Aby Largett made several saves to keep the Comets in the game.
Watertown scored first off a corner kick when Ella Bowman’s header went into the net, making it 1-0 Cyclones.
Late in the first half, Lila Adams scored with a left-footed shot, making it 2-0 Cyclones.
Olivia Macutek made it 3-0 just before halftime.
Watertown defeated Carthage 5-3.
South Jefferson blanks General Brown
Under the lights in Adams, South Jefferson hosted General Brown.
After a scoreless first half, the host Spartans scored twice in the second half while holding the Lions off the scoreboard.
South Jefferson defeated General Brown 2-0.
