ARDEN, N.C. (WLOS) — Two people have been arrested in connection with a break-in and burglary at the Buncombe County home of NASCAR driver Dave Marcis, authorities confirmed.
Deputies responded to Marcis’ house in Arden for a report of a breaking and entering on Friday, Aug. 28, according to a press release from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
Marcis was out of town when the incident occurred. A Facebook post from one of Marcis’ friends said the stolen items included guns, jewelry and personal NASCAR memorabilia, including knives honoring past Winston Cup championship drivers.

On Sept. 3, Buncombe County detectives charged 27-year-old Hailey Bowlin with second-degree burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, larceny of a firearm, larceny after breaking and entering, and five counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.
One day prior, detectives from Henderson and Buncombe counties had arrested and charged Bowlin with a probation violation. Authorities confirmed she is being held in the Henderson County Detention Center.
On Sept. 8, detectives arrested a second person: 29-year-old Cameron Samotis, who is charged with second-degree burglary, officials said. He is also being held in the Henderson County Detention Center.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said most of the items stolen from Marcis’ residence have since been recovered.
“Many of the items taken from Mr. Marcis were personal and irreplaceable. We are grateful for the work our Criminal Investigations Division, our Patrol Deputies, and our colleagues at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office put into this case. Their dedication led to the recovery of most of his property and the arrests made in this case,” said Capt. Dustan Auldredge with the BCSO.
