ARDEN, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two people were arrested suspected of breaking into the western North Carolina home of retired NASCAR driver Dave Marcis.
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said on Aug. 28, deputies responded to the home of the 85-year-old retired Cup Series driver in Arden, south of Asheville, following a breaking and entering call.

Buncombe County detectives worked with those from Henderson County to arrest and charge Hailey Bowlin on Sept. 2 with Probation Violation. The next day, Bowlin was also charged with:
Possession of a Firearm by a Felon,
Larceny After Breaking and Entering, and
Five counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses.
She is being held in the Henderson County Detention Center.
On Sept. 9, a second suspect, Cameron Samotis, was arrested after being charged with Second Degree Burglary. He is being held in the Henderson County Detention Center.

A majority of the items stolen from Marcis have been recovered.
“Many of the items taken from Mr. Marcis were personal and irreplaceable,” said BCSO District 1 Captain Dustan Auldredge. “We are grateful for the work our Criminal Investigations Division, our Patrol Deputies, and our colleagues at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office put into this case. Their dedication led to the recovery of most of his property and the arrests made in this case.”
Marcis won five Cup Series races during his long career, spanning from 1968 to 2002. He took a career-high three checkered flags in 1976, when he finished sixth in the then-Winston Cup standings. He raced just four times in his finals two seasons , at ages 60 and 61.
