ARDEN, N.C. (WBTV) – A retired NASCAR driver reportedly had several guns, memorabilia and other personal items stolen from his house in North Carolina recently.
An incident report filed with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 29 confirmed that longtime driver Dave Marcis had his home in the Arden area broken into.
The report did not list exactly what was stolen, but did note theft of “high $ items only.”
A man who appears to be a friend of Marcis’ posted on Aug. 30, that Marcis was in his home state of Wisconsin when the break-in happened. The friend also said racing memorabilia was stolen, along with guns, jewelry and other personal items.
Arrest warrants issued at the beginning of September connected 27-year-old Hailey Dawn Bowlin to the theft of Marcis’ guns.
Records showed she was arrested in Henderson County, N.C. on Sept. 2, and faced a long list of charges, including several counts of possession of a stolen firearm.
State records showed Bowlin was on probation after she was previously convicted of possessing stolen goods.
In his own social media post, Marcis wrote that some of the stolen items had been recovered, with “hopefully more to come.”

Marcis said in his post that someone reached out after a few of the stolen guns were bought at a local flea market.
Now 85 years old, Marcis ranks fourth all-time in Cup Series starts with 883. Only Richard Petty (1,184), Ricky Rudd (906) and Terry Labonte (890) ran more Cup races in their careers.
Known for driving the No. 71 car, Marcis picked up his first of five career wins in 1975 at Martinsville. He finished that season second in points behind Petty. The following year, Marcis won races at Talladega, Richmond and Atlanta.
Marcis earned his final victory at Richmond in 1982. His decades-long career spanned from 1968-2002.
