Soccer fans react to uncertainty surrounding Racing Louisville’s future

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Questions are swirling about Racing Louisville FC’s future following a report that the team could be sold and relocated.

A report from ESPN’s Jeff Kassouf said Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati has been in talks with Racing Louisville about a potential sale that could move the National Women’s Soccer League team across state lines.

The report comes as Racing Louisville has struggled to fill seats at Lynn Family Stadium.

Neither club has confirmed the report. FC Cincinnati said it remains committed to growing women’s soccer and is excited about opportunities to further support the women’s game.

Some Cincinnati-area fans say they would support the move.

“I think we have the infrastructure for it. I think Ohio South soccer is huge, and it’s been popular for a long time. So I think there’s a large youth that would feed into it,” said Brieh Walker.

In Louisville, however, the possibility of losing Racing has concerned longtime supporters who say the club provides important role models for young athletes and strengthens the city’s sports community.

“I think keeping it here is great because we’re a sports city. We just need to kind of get more people out here,” said Ally Riney-Foster, Racing Louisville supporter.

Regarding reports of a potential sale, FC Cincinnati said it has nothing specific to comment on, but its commitment to advancing the sport remains strong.
