Oklahoma State fans storm field, throw goalpost into Theta Pond after upset win over Oregon

STILLWATER, Okla. —
Oklahoma State fans stormed the field and took a goalpost from Boone Pickens Stadium after the Cowboys pulled off a big upset victory over Oregon on Saturday.

Cowboys stun Ducks
The Cowboys defeated the No. 6 Oregon Ducks 39-31 after coming into the matchup as a 23 1/2-point underdog. The victory was Oklahoma State’s first under Eric Morris and ended a 21-game skid against FBS opponents.
Oklahoma State controlled most of the game and came up with a huge fourth-down stop late to secure the eight-point victory.
Quarterback Drew Mestemaker lived up to the hype on Saturday following a disappointing debut against Tulsa, throwing for 317 yards and two touchdowns and adding 109 yards and a highlight-reel rushing score that sent him flipping through the air.
Goalpost lands in Theta Pond
Once the clock struck zero, Cowboy fans stormed the field and celebrated the long-awaited victory.
Among the fans was Sen. James Lankford, who posted a selfie video outside the stadium as fans carried one of the goalposts.
“I’m probably supposed to say they shouldn’t, but upsetting the No. 6 team in the nation to end a 12-game skid seems like a pretty good reason to rush the field! What a way for Coach Morris to earn his first home win as a Cowboy. This OSU squad came to play,” Lankford posted on the social media platform X.

The goalpost took a quick trip out of Boone Pickens Stadium and to Theta Pond, which is about a 15-minute walk away, before being tossed into the water.

Could Oklahoma State be fined?
Oklahoma State could see a fine from the Big 12 following the field-storming fun.
The conference fined Arizona State and Colorado $50,000 after fans stormed the field following their respective wins over Texas Tech and Iowa State in 2025. The Big 12, however, later rescinded the fine against Colorado.
Upcoming game
The Cowboys improved to 1-1 on the season and head into their upcoming game against Murray State with a lot of momentum. The game is slated to kick off at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Boone Pickens Stadium and can be watched on ESPN+.
