WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A decorated athlete from Wichita has an honor to add to his list of accomplishments that includes Paralympic medals, major tournament championships and numerous contributions to the sport of tennis at the youth, collegiate and professional levels.
Last week, Nick Taylor, who serves as the director of operations for Wichita State Men’s Tennis, received a career-recognizing accolade, cementing his place among the all-time greats in wheelchair tennis.
In New York City during the U.S. Open last Wednesday, Sept. 9, Taylor was among the honorees inducted into the Wheelchair Tennis Hall of Champions.
Beyond helping players of all abilities develop their skills, Taylor had an extensive playing career. The 46-year-old won three Paralympic doubles gold medals, a bronze medal in quad singles and a silver medal in quad doubles. He also has 11 grand slam quad doubles titles, among numerous shining moments.
Taylor concluded his professional playing career, but his involvement with Wichita State men’s tennis and in the broader community continues.
Wichita State Athletics noted that Taylor first joined the tennis program as an intern in 2004 through Wichita State’s Sports Administration program. He began work as a volunteer assistant in 2009 after earning his Master’s degree in 2007.
In recognition of his victories and contributions in Wichita and far beyond, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) recognized Taylor among those inducted within the first year of the Wheelchair Tennis Hall of Champions.
