Cunningham has been one of the most vocal players in the WNBA when it comes to trying to look out for and protect the interests of her fellow players.
But some have suggested that Cunningham hasn’t been very sincere in her approach, and her latest comments about the WNBA schedule have given people more reason to think so.

Speaking to reporters, Sophie Cunningham gave a response when asked about the possibility of reducing back-to-back games going forward.
While she wasn’t a fan of back-to-back games, she suggested that WNBA players are compensated well enough to not complain about playing consecutive fixtures.
“I think that’s a more complex question. I don’t think anyone wants back-to-backs; I don’t even think the league wants back-to-backs.
“We’re trying to put the best product out every single night. I know the NBA doesn’t like back-to-backs. But when they get paid as much as they do, and we get paid as much as we do, you’re expected to play more games. I think that some of the players didn’t like that.
“But I think that’s part of it. You’re getting paid more; you gotta put more product out on the floor. You’re going to have more back-to-backs. That’s just what it means to be a pro.

“Of course you don’t want that. Maybe they can schedule our games a little differently, with not so many long breaks for teams.
“But then at the end of the day, you know that season is a grind, and that’s part of it. You gotta soak it up… Don’t take it for granted.”
For Cunningham to speak in favour of the league and the establishment after positioning herself as a figure in favour of player empowerment does come as a surprise.
Many WNBA players have raised issues with their current scheduling and suggested that the league should reduce the number of back-to-back games.
Perhaps Cunningham will change her tune when some of her teammates and other players explain their issues with the schedule.
