The Blues head into our fifth Premier League match of the season, and last before the international break, in sixth place in the table. We are five points behind the top two, Arsenal and Manchester City. Friday’s opponents Brentford are one place below and one point behind the Blues.

Chelsea are looking to extend our unbeaten run in all competitions away at Brentford to ten matches (four wins, five draws) since our last defeat there in October 1938, in the old First Division.

Brentford have not secured a victory in their past six home league fixtures against Chelsea, recording four draws and two defeats since their 1-0 win in October 1938. All three of their Premier League wins against the Blues have been at Stamford Bridge.

After winning our last meeting with Brentford at Stamford Bridge in January, the Blues are aiming for back-to-back victories over the Bees for the first time since 2021. Our last four away meetings have ended in draws.

In the corresponding fixture in September 2025, Kevin Schade gave Brentford the lead before Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo put the Blues ahead, only for Fabio Carvalho to equalise in the third minute of stoppage time.

The Blues have won five of our last seven Premier League London derbies. Both of the defeats in that time have come at Arsenal.

Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal and Hull City all conceded their first Premier League goals of the season against Chelsea. It is the first time in the competition’s history that any side has been the first to score against four different teams in a season.

Chelsea have conceded two or more goals in each of our first four matches at the start of a Premier League season for the first time since 2015/16 (first five games).

Our last Premier League clean sheet was against Brentford at Stamford Bridge on 17 January. Our last clean sheet on the road in the competition was at Bournemouth on 6 December.

Only Brighton (five) have scored more Premier League goals from set-plays this season than Chelsea.

No Premier League team’s matches have produced more goals after four matchweeks than Chelsea’s 19, comprising 10 scored and nine conceded. Brighton’s games are second with 18 goals.

Cole Palmer (71) is the second Chelsea player to reach 70-plus Premier League goal involvements in his first 100 appearances for the club, after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (77).

Morgan Rogers is the fifth different player to score or assist in each of Chelsea’s first four games of a Premier League season, after Didier Drogba (2010/11), Cesc Fabregas (2014/15), Diego Costa (2014/15 and 2016/17) and Eden Hazard (2018/19).

Joao Pedro leads the Premier League for goal involvements this season with six (three goals and three assists). Only Drogba (eight in 2010/11) and Diego Costa (seven) have ever had more goals and assists for Chelsea in the first four matches of a campaign in the competition.

Milestones

Cole Palmer made his 100th Premier League appearance against Hull last week. He is one away from scoring 50 goals in the competition for the club. Only two players have reached a half century of goals for the Blues in fewer appearances – Hasselbaink (84) and Diego Costa (85).

If they play this weekend, Moises Caicedo (150 appearances), Malo Gusto (100 starts), Josh Acheampong (50 appearances) and Wesley Fofana (50 Premier League starts) will hit milestones with the Blues.

Brentford have lost two of their past 17 Premier League home games (seven wins, eight draws) and remain unbeaten in their last seven (two wins, five draws).

The Bees are one of seven clubs to go unbeaten in their opening four league games of this season, although they have dropped points from winning positions in three successive matches. Their last league defeat came at Manchester City in May.

Of Brentford’s last 14 Premier League matches, ten have ended in draws, with two wins and two defeats. The Bees are unbeaten in their last six league games (one win, five draws), having recorded longer runs in the competition only in March 2023 (12 games) and September 2023 (seven).
