New York Knicks fans who have been faced with steep ticket prices to attend home games at Madison Square Garden will see some relief soon.

MSG Sports announced on Thursday that it will pause ticket sales for Knicks games due to “a mistake” in the initial pricing. The company will roll back to last year’s pricing with an average increase of 12 percent.

“Our intention was never to overcharge our loyal fans, and we thank everyone for their support of the Knicks and their patience as we get this right,” the statement said.

Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reported, “A source close to the situation said the pricing error was a first-time mistake for MSG and it was never the intent to price gouge fans after a championship season.”

Bondy added that while MSG’s policy under James Dolan was not to raise prices if the team failed to qualify for the postseason, upticks “have become commonplace since Jalen Brunson’s arrival, with the Knicks advancing to the playoffs in four straight years – including last season’s title run.”

As Knicks reporter Tommy Breer pointed out when tickets went on sale on Wednesday, the get-in price for New York’s Opening Night game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct. 20 was over $1,000. While such exorbitant prices are expected for resale tickets, these prices came directly from MSG:

The Knicks will be raising an NBA championship banner for the first time in 53 years when they open the 2026-27 season, and it’s only right that their most diehard fans are in attendance for the historic moment. However, the price increases create a risk of alienating a key part of the fan base, so MSG needs to rectify this situation as quickly as possible.
