CARY, N.C. – Oklahoma State women’s tennis freshmen Claudia Gasparovic and Arina Malygina advanced into the second round of pre-qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina, on Saturday.
Malygina kicked off her Cowgirl debut with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Magdalena Baniak of Maryland, while Gasparovic added a straight-set victory of her own with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Randy Rakotoarilala of North Carolina Central.
Both Cowgirls will return to action Sunday, with a win sending them to the third and final round of pre-qualifying later in the day.
Malygina, the No. 1 seed in pre-qualifying, will take on Nithesa Selvaraj of Rice at 8 a.m. CT, while Gasparovic will face Miami’s Jaquelyn Ogunwale at 9:30 a.m. CT.
