Arkansas freshman forward Miikka Muurinen has been cleared by the NCAA to play for the Razorbacks during the 2026-27 season, removing one of the biggest questions surrounding John Calipari’s roster.

An Arkansas spokesperson confirmed Muurinen’s eligibility Thursday. The 7-foot forward had been awaiting clearance because of his previous professional contract with KK Partizan in Belgrade, Serbia.

The delay kept Muurinen out of Arkansas’ summer exhibition games in the Bahamas, but the program remained confident throughout the process that he would be eligible before the season. His teammates celebrated the decision in a video shared on social media by freshman guard Jordan Smith Jr.

Muurinen committed to Arkansas in April and later signed with the Razorbacks as one of the top prospects in Calipari’s highly regarded recruiting class. ESPN and 247Sports rated the Finland native as a five-star prospect.

Before joining Arkansas, Muurinen appeared in 14 games for Partizan during the 2025-26 season, including six EuroLeague contests. He left the club in February to pursue an opportunity in college basketball.

Muurinen also brings international experience to Fayetteville. He averaged 6.6 points and 1.9 rebounds in eight games while helping Finland finish fourth at EuroBasket 2025. He was named the tournament’s inaugural FIBA EuroBasket Rising Star.

His combination of size, athleticism and perimeter shooting gives Calipari another versatile option in the frontcourt. Muurinen is expected to help fill the stretch-forward role left by Trevon Brazile, with the ability to space the floor and attack from the perimeter.

With his eligibility settled, Muurinen can now fully prepare to make his Arkansas debut and compete for an immediate role in the Razorbacks’ rotation.
