HOUSTON — The University of Houston Soccer team continued Big 12 Conference play with a 2-1 win over Iowa State at Carl Lewis International Complex on Thursday evening.
Houston (6-1-3, 2-0 Big 12) started Big 12 play 2-0 for the first time in program history. The Cougars have never had back-to-back wins in Big 12 conference play, and it’s the first time since 2021 that they have secured consecutive conference wins.
The win marked the Cougars’ second over Iowa State (4-4-2, 0-2 Big 12) along with it being the third straight game that the result had been 2-1 between the teams.
Houston went down 1-0 in the first half off Lucy Froitzheim’ first goal of the season, in the 18th minute.
The Cougars went into halftime with only four shot attempts.
The second half was a different story with 17 shot attempts punctuated with an Olympico from fifth year Laney Gonzales for her first career goal in the 68th minute.
The dagger came in the 73rd minute from junior Bailey Cate’s team-leading sixth goal of the season with an assist from Laney Gonzales.
