DUBOIS — Playing host to Bradford on Thursday afternoon, the DuBois girls tennis team made it another 5-for-5 afternoon, sweeping all three singles and both doubles matches to secure a 5-0 victory over the Lady Owls.
Sonia Parekh won her first singles match over Bradford’s Jackie Sipko by a 6-3, 6-2 margin, and Kendall Lashinsky won 6-2, 6-1 over Karmyn Vossler at second singles. Megan Orzechowski’s third singles win was the easiest of them all, as she won by forfeit.
At first doubles, the DuBois duo of Alyssa Catalano and Cameron Sarick won 6-0, 6-1 over Bradford’s Lilly Hawk and Kasey Poe, and in the second doubles match, it was Maya Guthridge and Avery Sheloski winning each of their sets 6-1 over Bradford’s Sophia Miles and Elaina Keller.
DuBois returns to action on Tuesday with a short trip to Brockway.
BROCKWAY 4, J’BURG 1
BROCKWAY — The Lady Rovers picked up a victory on their home courts on Thursday, securing a singles sweep and winning one of the two doubles matches over Johnsonburg for a 4-1 win.
Maria Buttery got things started for Brockway at No. 1 singles with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Camdyn Amspacher, and at No. 2 singles, it was Jorden Sanchez winning 6-0, 6-2 over Johnsonburg’s Sam Halquist.
Rosalina Bickar completed the singles sweep for the host with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kendall Holley.
Brockway’s final win came at No. 2 doubles, where Bickar and Jaelyn Shearer tamed up to best Johnsonburg’s Gianna Plants and Brooklyn Marche 6-0, 6-2.
The Ramettes got their team point at top doubles, where Elizabeth Lowry and Chloe Baker won 6-2, 6-4 over Sadie Cherubini and Brookelynn Bish.
Brockway will host DuBois on Tuesday.
PUNXSY 4, ST. MARYS 1
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Lady Chucks celebrated their Senior Night in style, winning four of their five matches against visiting St. Marys to pick up a victory.
Addie London won her first singles match for Punxsy 6-2, 6-4 over St. Marys’ Pilar Pfoutz, and Zoey Rushnok picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory at second singles over Anna Porkolab.
St. Marys’ team point came at third singles, where Claire Colosimo won 6-2, 6-1 over Punxsy’s Emma Young.
Over in the doubles, Punxsy’s first team of Issadora Gourley and Mei Lin Corbin won each of their sets 6-0 to top Abigail D’Amore and Lucia Bonanno, and in the second pairing it was Rhonda Neal and Phalan Manners winning each of their sets 6-1 against Shaniya Ernietta and Daphnie McCall.
“We have been led all year by our seniors,” Punxsy coach Shawn London said. “Addie played really well tonight against a tough opponent, and Zoey came out and played very well. Emma also played a long match that included some nice rallies. Issadora and Mei Lin worked very well together tonight, and Rhonda and Phalan played well together to finish the evening.”
St. Marys coach Tim Henry said, “Tonight, we fell to a team with six seniors. Pilar and Anna gave good effort but couldn’t figure out how to overcome two of Punxy’s seniors.
“Claire continues to flip earlier losses and is really improving at the three spot. Her confidence and tenacity kept tonight’s contest from being another shut-out.
“In doubles, we continue to field new players who are also improving but are not ready to post wins over more experienced players. Punxsy is one of the area’s best teams, and their experience definitely helped them secure the win. Congratulations to Punxsy.”
Punxsy is at Johnsonburg on Tuesday, while St. Marys travels to Bradford Monday.
