CLARION, Pa. — Kutztown University put four golfers in the top nine and jumped out to an 11-shot lead after the first round of the Golden Eagle Autumn Invitational at Clarion Oaks Golf Club, Saturday.
Brooke Graham (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) paced the 52-player field with a 6-over-par 78 that included a birdie on the par 5, 441-yard 14th and 10 pars.
Sophomore Livia Andov (Pekanbaru, Indonesia/) joined Graham as two of only three players to shoot in the 70s during the opening round. Andov recorded a team-best three birdies and overcame some uneven play on the front nine to card a 1-over 37 on the back and finish at 79 (+7). She put up birdies on the par 4, 296-yard second and par 3, 167-yard fifth, before a run of seven straight holes with par or better on the last nine, including a birdie at No. 13, a 158-yard par 3.
Newcomer Abby McCaffrey (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) carded 10 pars on her way to a 9-over 81 and is currently tied for fifth. Sophomore Eva Moawad (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) collected a birdie at No. 2 and totaled six pars gain a share of ninth with an 83 (+11).
Brooke Prindiville (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) rounded out Kutztown’s lineup by shooting 88 (+16). She picked up a birdie on the par 4, 351-yard 12th and added six pars.
The Golden Bears shot 321 as a team (+33) in another PSAC-heavy field. They lead Seton Hill by 11 shots (332), with Millersville third at 337, California (Pa.) fourth at 352 and host Clarion fifth at 353.
The tournament’s final 18 holes will be played Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.
