The Mavericks deployed four players to make their season debuts at the Creighton Invite hosted by the crosstown rival Bluejays.
Omaha men’s tennis competed for three days at the team’s third event of the fall. Kaden Taylor, Pavan Uppu, Eloi Roux and Kristian Thomas made up the final four of the Mavs’ ten rostered players to appear this fall. Each athlete has participated in exactly one meet up to this point.
Taylor dominated in singles play to say the least, going undefeated in his three matches. First, he grinded out a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Creighton’s Jack McMahon before knocking off Carlos Doria and Gael Mourmant in straight sets. He also teamed up with Thomas to take down Northwest Missouri State’s Vitor Monteiro and Pavlo Vysotin in a doubles matchup.
Thomas also shined in the singles division, emerging victorious against the Bluejays’ Maxime Grünig and the Bearcats’ Thomas Desgris.
Uppu matched Thomas with two singles victories, but the redshirt junior made his mark in doubles play. He partnered up with Roux and went unbeaten in three bouts, defeating duos from Creighton, Northwest Missouri State and Washburn.
The freshman Roux defeated Creighton’s Sebastian Papp for the lone singles win of his collegiate debut.
Overall, the Mavs performed well, going 12-6 overall in the three-day event. Omaha ends the weekend with an 8-4 record in singles and a 4-2 mark in doubles.
The Mavericks now look ahead to the ITA Central Regionals in Lincoln. The tournament will be held from Oct. 7-11.
