Chris McKenna is Frank McKeown’s latest addition, with the towering defender joining on loan from East Kilbride until January.
The 25-year-old joined the reigning League 2 champions in the summer having spent the previous five years playing in the United States.
A youth player at Celtic and St Mirren, Chris made the move across the Atlantic on a soccer scholarship. Playing for the UoM Rams in Alabama, East Tennessee State University and the UAB Blazers.
His impressive showings in college soccer led to a move to USL Championship side Sporting Club Jacksonville, before Chris spent last season with Northern Colorado Hailstorm – before returning to Scotland and joining Kilby in June.
He made his EK debut against us back in July, before suffering a rolled ankle that ruled him out of the early stages of his new side’s debut campaign in League 1.
Now back in full training and looking to get back to full fitness he’s signed up at The Rock – sponsored by Marbill Coaches.
Gaffer Frank McKeown said: “We’ve been keen to add more options in defence as I felt we were light in that area of the pitch. We have now brought in Tom Lang and Chris to our ranks, and that no doubt gives us options.
“Chris was someone we identified before he went to East Kilbride and showed up well for them in pre season but injury curtailed his minutes there. This has given us the opportunity to bring Chris to the club and I was prepared to be patient to ensure we brought the right player to the club. Chris is someone who fits the bill and is exactly what we’ve been looking for.
“He was impressive against us back in July and comes with a strong pedigree both in Scotland and the US. He’s got a determination to prove himself back in Scottish football this season and we’re delighted to give him the platform on which to do that.
“As a player he is, first and foremost, a good defender, but brings a composure on the ball as well as providing a presence in both boxes.
“The biggest thing I liked about Chris is his desire to succeed and do well. He’s very level headed and his hunger to get better and improve, will give him every chance to play at a good level for many years to come. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
Welcome to The Rock, Chris!
