HAWLEY, Minn. – One day after wrapping up a two-day tournament in Bismarck, the Valley City State golf teams were back on the course Wednesday. By the end of the round at Hawley Golf Club, the Vikings had a men’s team championship and another individual title for Sadie Neustel.
The Viking men placed four golfers among the top five, combining depth with strong individual performances to secure the win. Nick Meisch led the way with a 73 to finish third, while individual entrant Parker Dockter followed with a 74 for fourth.
Owen Haase and Jace Fyre each turned in a 75 to tie for fifth. Xander Klinnert rounded out VCSU’s team scoring with a 76, placing eighth and helping the Vikings finish with a 299. That total gave VCSU a seven-stroke victory over Mayville State’s 306. M State finished third at 309, followed by Turtle Mountain at 360.
Bryce Zietz tied for 12th with an 80, Dylan Hedge tied for 20th with an 84, and individual entrant Tony Piccalo placed 24th with an 88.
For the Viking women, Neustel once again finished at the front of the field. Her 83 earned the individual championship by seven strokes over Mayville State’s Jaci Reisenauer, who shot 90. Neustel led all 14 competitors, adding another victory to a fall that already included titles at the Blue Hawk Fall Invitational and Spartan Invitational.

The Viking women combined for a 379, finishing seven strokes behind Mayville State’s winning score of 372.
With a pair of titles from Hawley, VCSU now turns its attention to the second fall Frontier Conference tournament, scheduled for Oct. 5–6 at Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena, Mont.
