There are some big changes coming for the New York Knicks, on the business side of things. An NBA insider has revealed the details.
James Dolan is one of the most well-known team owners in the NBA. It hasn’t always been for the best reasons, but the recent championship has likely taken some of the heat off of him.
Dolan owns the New York Knicks, as well as their G-League affiliate the Westchester Knicks. He also owns the NHL’s New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack.
All these teams have so far been owned under one company’s banner. A company called Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. or MSG Sports. That is set to change this month.

The business of sports is one that involves many things fans don’t even generally think about. It seems Dolan has decided to split his teams into two separate companies.
The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov reported on the changes which will occur in October.
“MSG Sports will spin off the New York Knicks and Rangers into separate publicly traded companies, after its board approved the move,” he reported.
“Transaction will be completed on Oct. 26. MSG Sports will be MSG Knickerbockers Corp. It’ll own the Knicks and Westchester Knicks.
“MSG Rangers Corp. will be comprised of the Rangers, MSG training facility and Hartford Wolf Pack. The transaction will be final after league approvals and other conditions.
“Starting on Oct. 27, 2026, anyone who wants to buy the Knicks can buy them under the stock symbol ‘MSGK’ and can buy the Rangers under the stock symbol: ‘MSGR’.”
According to reports, Dolan will remain executive chairman and CEO of both companies. It is safe to say that at the current moment, Knicks stock might be at an all-time high.
