Molly Kratz, Alex Jacobs and Vivian Sigman each won their singles matches to help host Wyoming Area defeat Crestwood, 3-1, in an opening-round match in the District 2 Class AA Team Tennis Championshps on Wednesday.

Wyoming Area, the No. 7 seed, will advance to take on Wyoming Seminary on Thursday afternoon at Wyoming Seminary.

Crestwood’s team of Addison Knorr and Mia Collins won at No. 1 doubles. Sophia Riddle and Danika Dreisbach of Wyoming Area led their doubles match, 3-1, when it was halted because the match was decided.

Crestwood 2, Lackawanna Trail 1

In Factoryville, Mia Blasi scored a fourth-quarter goal to lift Crestwood to a 2-1 win over Lackawanna Trail in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division I showdown.

Alana Edwards scored in the first quarter, giving Lackawanna Trail a lead.

Piper Kleban-Harden tied the game with an unassisted goal with 9:14 remaining in the fourth. Blasi put away the game-winner with 3:30 remaining.

Crestwood improved to 5-0-1. Lackawanna Trail (6-1), which had only three shots on goal, lost for the first time in Division I.

Wilkes-Barre Area 1, Hazleton Area 0

At Wolfpack Stadium, Johnny Mendola scored off an assist from Nathaniel Franchella in the second half to account for the only goal of the game in Wilkes-Barre Area’s win.

Braedon Hollingshead made three saves in goal for the Wolfpack. Hazleton Area goalie Anthony Romero stopped 23 shots.

Tamaqua 7, Marian 1

Shaylee Gormley and Joey Vidzicki both scored three goals and had an assist as the Lady Raiders downed Marian.

Gia Miller added a goal and Evelyn Leinbach chipped in an assist for the winners.

The Fillies avoided the shutout on Camryn Shistel’s goal with four seconds left.

Marian’s Katie Knock stopped 13 shots. Winning keeper Arabella Honey had no saves.

H.S. Girls’ Volleyball
Panther Valley 3, Tamaqua 0

Jaelynn Browdy (eight), Sophia Paton (seven) and Danika Blazosky (six) teamed for 21 kills as the visiting Lady Panthers swept past Tamaqua, 25-14, 25-19, 25-4, in a Schuylkill League Division 1 match.

Browdy also finished with nine assists, four aces and seven digs; Paton helped with an assist, four blocks, an ace and two digs; Blazosky had 11 assists, four aces and three digs; and Jessica Hackash added three kills, two assists, three blocks, five aces and five digs.

For the Lady Raiders, Madison Schock led the way with two kills, five assists, one ace and six digs; Payton Selbe had four kills and two digs; Stephanie Chen recorded one kill and 11 digs; and Skylare McConnan had three aces and three digs.

Girls

Mikayla Pugh led a Weatherly sweep of the first three spots as the Lady Wreckers beat Nativity, 13-23, Shenandoah Valley, 29-30, and Tri-Valley, 25-30, in a Schuylkill League Division 2 girls’ cross country meet in Weatherly.

Pugh finished in 22:09, well ahead of teammates Mikayla Kuntz (23:05) and Emma Moyer (23:11), who placed second and third overall, respectively.

The Lady Devils defeated Tri-Valley, 25-30, and Nativity, 20-43.

Shenandoah Valley’s Valeria Hernandez placed a team-best sixth. Teammates Brookelyn Gradwell, Ruby Ruiz and Victoria Hernandez came in seventh, eighth and ninth in that order.

Marian splits in cluster

In Hometown, the Fillies eased past Gillingham Charter 15-50, but were on the short end of a 15-40 score against Schuylkill Haven in a Schuylkill League Division 2 meet.

Boys
Nativity dominant in sweep

Nativity cruised to 15-47 wins over both Weatherly and Shenandoah Valley and took a 15-50 win over Tri-Valley.

Green Wave runners placed first through fifth inclusively. Wyatt Hylka led the parade of Gold and Green to the finish line in 18:37. Shane Meyer, Noah Stehr, Kyle McCormick and .Jacob Bowman finished sixth through ninth, respectively.

Alex Best led Weatherly in sixth place overall. Teammate Khrystian Rivera a 10th-place finish.

Gabriel Saba paced the Devils in seventh place, two spots ahead of Angel Flores in ninth.

Hurricanes sweep 3

Schuylkill Haven edged host Marian, 29-30, and beat Gillingham Charter, 15-49, for the Schuylkill League Division 2 sweep.

The Colts topped Gillingham Charter, 18-37, in the other portion of the meet.
