The 2026 MLB playoffs began with 12 teams. Now, that number is down to nine.

The American League’s No. 4 New York Yankees and No. 6 Chicago White Sox, along with the National League’s No. 4 San Diego Padres, have advanced to the Division Series of the postseason. All three teams recorded Wild Card Series sweeps — New York dominated the rival No. 5 Boston Red Sox, Chicago rolled past the No. 4 Houston Astros for its first postseason series victory in over two decades, and San Diego took care of the No. 5 Chicago Cubs.

The only Wild Card Series headed to a decisive Game 3 is the matchup between the No. 3 Atlanta Braves and No. 6 Philadelphia Phillies. That series wraps up Thursday night.

The Division Series will see the introduction of the top two seeds in each league — the AL’s No. 1 Tampa Bay Rays and No. 2 Cleveland Guardians, and the NL’s No. 1 Milwaukee Brewers and two-time defending World Series champion No. 2 Los Angeles Dodgers. Those clubs received byes past the Wild Card Series.
