SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) — Gov. JB Pritzker met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Pat Ryan, Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, Rep. Kam Buckner and Sen. Bill Cunningham Thursday in Illinois, the governor’s office said.

“The Governor’s Office has remained in conversation with the Bears about their plans in Illinois throughout the summer,” the office said. “The Governor and General Assembly leadership were glad to participate in a productive meeting focused on keeping the Bears in Illinois and protecting taxpayers.”

An NFL spokesperson issued a statement, saying “The NFL appreciated the opportunity to meet with Governor Pritzker and legislative leaders today. Timely action is essential as the Bears work to find a long-term stadium solution for the club and their fans.”

The Chicago Bears want to build a new stadium and have several location options.

The team recently asked fans how they felt about a potential move to Hammond, Indiana.

The team has previously asked fans to fill out surveys over plans to build a stadium in the northwest Indiana region, as well as Arlington Heights, Illinois.

The team recently said two sites in Hammond were their “sole focus;” although they have not made a final decision.

The Bears still own the site of the former Arlington Racecourse in Arlington Heights.
