HOBOKEN, N.J. — Stevens opened MAC Freedom play in impressive fashion Saturday afternoon, earning a dominant 2-0 victory over King’s (Pa.) at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The Ducks controlled the match from start to finish, overwhelming the Monarchs with relentless pressure and a 30-2 advantage in shots while improving to 2-5-3 overall and 1-0 in league play with their first multi-goal effort of the season.
How It Happened
The home side wasted little time establishing control. Stevens generated several quality opportunities in the opening minutes, including shots off the woodwork by Kaitlyn Pettit and Alana Odom. The first breakthrough came in the eighth minute when Sophia Murphy finished off an Olivia Hoover, capping the early Stevens flurry.
Stevens continued to dictate play throughout the first half, piling up 16 shots and four corner kicks while limiting King’s to just one attempt. Despite the Ducks’ offensive dominance, King’s goalkeeper Courtney Monard kept the visitors within striking distance with several key saves.
The Ducks wasted little time adding insurance after halftime. Just 2:14 into the second half, Hannah Casale doubled the lead, converting a pass from Alina Friz for her first goal of the season. The tally gave Stevens a 2-0 advantage and provided all the breathing room the defense would need.
From there, Stevens continued to press forward, finishing with 14 shots on goal and forcing Monard to make a dozen saves by the end of the match. Defensively, Stevens was nearly flawless. The Ducks allowed only two shots all match and just one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Lucy Smith was called upon for only a single save, recording the shutout behind a back line that consistently denied King’s opportunities to build any sustained attack.
