AUSTIN, Texas — Texas native Kate McCallister scored the opener to give Oklahoma (9-2-2, 3-2 SEC) the 1-0 lead, but the Longhorns (7-2-3, 2-1-2 SEC) responded with two goals in the second half as Oklahoma came up short, 2-1, Sunday, Oct. 4.
Texas 2, Oklahoma 1
An offsides call cleared the scoreboard of a Texas opening goal and just over a minute later the Sooners got on the board. McCallister gathered a loose ball in the box and ripped a shot on frame that was deflected before finding the back of the net.
Ariana Ellison made a few key defensive plays to help quiet the Texas attack and Callie Sullivan put up a career day with five saves, but Texas finally broke through. Midfielder Amalia Villareal provided both goals, the first coming on a penalty kick in the 68th minute and the game winner on a goal scored after she was initially blocked.
