The Golden State Valkyries could be heading into another playoff scheduling conflict at Chase Center.
Front Office Sports reported Tuesday that Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Oct. 19, conflicts with a scheduled Doja Cat concert that night at the Valkyries’ home arena in San Francisco.
As the higher seed, the Valkyries would host Games 1, 2, 5 and 7 of the Finals, the latter two necessary if the series extends past the minimum four games.
The potential conflict, which would only come into play if the Valkyries win their semifinal series against the Las Vegas Aces, evokes memories of a similar conflict a year ago, when Golden State had to move its first-round playoff game against the Minnesota Lynx to SAP Center in San Jose.
Chase Center had previously been booked for the Laver Cup, an international tennis tournament.
The Front Office Sports report stated that WNBA teams are given playoff “hold” dates before the season begins. The Valkyries lead the series with Vegas 1-0, with Game 2 scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Chase Center.
The Valkyries did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Bay Area News Group. Front Office Sports did not get an immediate response from Doja Cat’s representatives.
Also of note, the Golden State Warriors’ regular season begins Oct. 21, but their scheduled home games will not conflict with potential Valkyries finals dates.
