SAN DIEGO — San Diego men’s tennis hosted the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic this past weekend, where freshmen Nicolas Baena and Botond Nagy went unbeaten in doubles and Baena picked up a singles win over Grand Canyon.

Baena and Nagy won all three doubles matches together. They opened Friday with a 7-5 victory over GCU, then beat California’s doubles pairing by the same score of 7-5 on Saturday. They closed the weekend out on Sunday with a 6-4 win over Santa Clara, as the freshmen doubles pairing showed out in their first collegiate competition in the fall.

In singles, the Peruvian Baena started Friday with a 6-4, 7-5 win over GCU’s Andreas Loizas after previously beating him in doubles earlier in the day. Baena lost to California to a pair of 3-6 sets on Saturday, and lost in a close match up on Sunday with a pair of 5-7 sets.
