Warminster Town Football Club has been awarded £12,000 from Warminster Town Council on top of £19,620 already secured from the Football Foundation, paving the way for a significant package of improvements at its Weymouth Street home.

The latest investment will fund new boundary fencing, ball retention systems and security improvements, while also helping improve spectator access around the ground.

Town councillors approved the funding from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), with council leaders saying the project will benefit both the club and the wider community.

Mayor of Warminster Cllr Jack Jones said the funding would help unlock major external investment already secured by the club.

He said: “This is an investment not only in the club, but in community safety and the future of grassroots sport in our town.

“The funding will help unlock the significant external investment already secured by the club and allow much-needed improvements to the boundary fencing and ball retention systems at Weymouth Street to go ahead.”

The works are expected to make the ground safer for players and spectators while reducing the risk of footballs leaving the site and entering surrounding areas.

Warminster Town FC chairman James Stone said the funding package represented a major boost for the club’s long-term future.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted and extremely grateful to Warminster Town Council for awarding the club £12,000 of CIL funding.

“This is a significant investment in the future of our Weymouth Street ground and, combined with the £19,620 we have already secured from the Football Foundation, will allow us to deliver a substantial package of improvements to the facility.”

Mr Stone said the project would replace ageing fencing, improve ball retention along Weymouth Street and enhance ground security.

The plans also include improvements to a concrete spectator pathway, allowing supporters to move more safely around the venue and watch matches from three sides of the pitch.

The latest grant follows previous council investment in the club. Earlier this year, Warminster Town Council awarded £15,000 towards replacing the deteriorating pitch-side barrier at the ground, helping unlock up to £35,000 from the Premier League Stadium Fund for that project.

For the volunteer-run club, the combined funding packages mark another major investment in improving facilities for players, supporters and the wider community.

Warminster Town Council said the club will report back once the latest boundary fencing and wall retention works have been completed.
